Lot 2544 RUGER No. 1 CUSTOM 220 RUSSIAN FALLING BLOCK
TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 220 Russian (5.6X39MM). S# 131-30762. Bbl. 24 3/4" target weight having slight taper (.850" at muzzle) with 11 degree target crown plus Unertl style base holding globe front sight; Lyman 90 MJT target sight on right side of receiver at rear (normally mounted on left so that windage adjustments function as marked; now in reverse by the markings). Made from a 1976 (1967 to date) Ruger that was subsequently rebarreled and restocked. Caliber is very similar to the popular 22 PPC caliber, but chamber casts confirm 220 Russian caliber with .219" measured groove diameter for .223" bullets rather than the more common .224" size; .220 Russian is the parent case for the 22 PPC caliber. Highly figured uncheckered pistol grip stock set with shadow lined raised cheek piece; straight comb. Winchester checkered steel buttplate with widows peak as used on a Model 71; retained with blued common flat head wood screws. CONDITION: very nice appearance as reblued. Stock has some finish discolorations at deep corners but fine wood to metal fit ready for very fine sanding and finishing to match the potential of the stock figure. Appears that stock may have been severed at the pistol grip as there is a fine crack on both sides that appears repaired. Additionally, the safety fails to properly engage as it likely is restricted by the stock inletting or the grip repair. Buttplate is without finish on its edges plus slightly askew in relationship to the stock surfaces; appears that it could be successfully match finished to the stock and then reblued. An occasional very faint mark on metal finish to include the edges of the trigger (likely from prior shoe attachment). Inside surface of rear sight has been filed to clear the action. Presently, forend is better appearing than the buttstock. Near excellent bore. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection. (25-6453/NW). MODERN. $700-1,000.
